Custom-crafted Mayfair Pool
Overlooking Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island, you might be forgiven for thinking you’ve found your dream home in Toka Ridge. Sprawling across acres of stunning landscaped gardens and native trees, with a gorgeous suite of luxurious AirBnB villas on offer, the family home has recently undergone an outdoor transformation with the addition of a luxurious wellness suite including pool, sauna and pilates studio – adding the final joie de vivre to this adored family home.
Our client, a designer with an eye for beautiful design and architecture herself, was after a very specific seamless mirror finish for her pool, along with a pool landscape that was sympathetic to the natural surrounds of the property and family home.
The landscape design was a true collaboration between the client, landscape architect and ourselves to achieve a finish that nestles into the existing home, whilst creating an absolute escape for our client to swim, sauna, practice pilates or soak away in her spa – or enjoy time with family or entertaining friends.
There were a number of sites initially discussed for the pool, with the final location being decided upon due to its connection with both the family home and existing outdoor entertainment area – along with the sweeping views across Lake Rotorua towards Mokoia Island.
The site however was home to an enormous tree with very deep roots which required careful excavation and grinding before we commenced the build.
The dark concrete surrounds were completed in a single pour and were framed around the pool to create a seamless finish with the charcoal fibreglass pool finish.
Choosing a dark fibreglass flowcoat with coloured concrete surrounds in Peter Fell 698, along with large natural boulders in local stone, we were able to create the effect of a mirror pool (without a mirror pool price tag) and accomplish the luxurious effect of a pool you might have stumbled upon in nature that reflects the mood of the sky above and its immediate surrounds.
