Custom-crafted Mayfair Pool
For Lynn and Steve, building a pool at their Kinloch home was about creating a special place for their family to enjoy. They wanted a safe and welcoming space for their grandkids to learn to swim, and a tranquil retreat for themselves to unwind. With the beautiful but chilly waters of Lake Taupō nearby, a pool was the perfect way to extend the swimming season and make the most of their stunning surroundings.

The design process was a collaborative effort, with Regan and Anna (Plateau Pools) offering valuable insights and guidance to ensure that the pool met the couple's needs. They opted for a 10m x 4m rectangular pool with a 3m x 1.5m beach step, coloured in pumice with blue silver glitter, a thermal cover, automated pH balancing, and a heat pump for year-round use. The Naked Freshwater chlorination system provides peace of mind, knowing that the water is safe and healthy for the family to enjoy.
The beach step creates a shallow splash deck perfect for little kids to play and paddle. At just 300mm deep, it's an ideal spot for them to build confidence in the water and then take the plunge into the deeper pool when they're feeling brave!
The Plateau Pools team took care of the permitting process, site preparation, pool construction, tiling around the pool, and fencing for this project. The team also provided guidance and support for the landscaping, which Lynn and Steve completed themselves. Regan's input was instrumental in helping them achieve their desired look, particularly with the strategic placement of large boulders on the site. "He had some great thoughts about the landscaping," Steve noted. "He's got incredible vision."
Their backyard has become a favourite spot for family and friends to gather. The grandkids love splashing around in the pool, while Lynn and Steve enjoy exercising and relaxing in the water. "We're absolutely thrilled with it," Steve says. What's impressive is how well the pool fits in with the rest of the property. Friends and family who've known the place for years can't believe how seamlessly it blends in. "It's like it was always here," Steve adds.
The result is exactly what they hoped for – a beautiful, functional space that brings everyone together.
